Epithalon (also spelled Epitalon) is the synthetic tetrapeptide Ala-Glu-Asp-Gly. Vladimir Khavinson’s group in St. Petersburg designed it from the amino acid makeup of epithalamin, an extract of the pineal gland.

It’s the best known of the Khavinson bioregulator peptides and is studied mainly for telomere biology and aging.

How Epitalon works

Epitalon is modeled on epithalamin, a peptide extract of the pineal gland. The pineal gland produces melatonin, and the original work looked at how it changed with age.

In cell culture, Khavinson’s group reported that epitalon switched on telomerase, the enzyme that rebuilds the protective caps on chromosome ends. Its other reported effects include normalizing melatonin rhythms in older animals.

Khavinson and colleagues reported in 2003 that Epithalon switched on telomerase and lengthened telomeres in cultured human fibroblasts.

Studies from the same institute reported longer lifespans and fewer tumors in some strains of mice and rats. Most of this work comes from one group, so independent replication is still limited.

Reconstituting Epitalon 10mg
